Benefits

I have a soft spot for grits, they’re not just a Southern comfort food, but a nutritional powerhouse that gets overlooked! I love how versatile and filling grits can be whether I’m eating them for breakfast or as a side dish. What I love is how those ground corn kernels are a great source of complex carbs and minerals. When I recommend grits to my clients I get to tell them how they can be the base for so many meals. I like to add a little cheese or some veggies to boost the nutrition. The warm, creamy texture always reminds me of home cooked meals and family gatherings. For me grits are more than just food – they’re a way to nourish our bodies and connect to our culinary heritage. Here's the benefits:
  1. Antioxidant rich: Grits have antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin that may help prevent degenerative eye disorders and overall eye health.
  2. Heart healthy: The antioxidants and fiber in grits may reduce inflammation and lower cholesterol, may decrease heart disease risk.
  3. Nutrient dense: Grits are a good source of iron, B vitamins (folate and thiamine) and magnesium and zinc for overall body functions.
  4. May help anemia: With iron and folate, grits can help prevent iron deficiency anemia by helping produce red blood cells.
  5. Long lasting energy: Grits are a complex carb. Good fuel for the body and brain.
